Internationally acclaimed organist Christopher Wrench is equally at home in the cathedrals and concert halls of the world as soloist, ensemble and liturgical musician. Born in Brisbane, Christopher is a graduate of the Queensland and Vienna Conservatoria and the Vienna University of Music. International recognition followed performances at the Vienna Konzerthaus (Poulenc Concerto 1983), St Stephen’s Cathedral (Vienna), Austrian Radio and major competitions in Melbourne (1st Prize, 1985), Dublin (2nd Prize), St Alban’s UK (Audience Prize), Calgary and Odense DK (1st Prize, 1992). He returned to Australia in 1991 to teach at the Queensland Conservatorium. Following eighteen years as Organist/Music Director at St Mary’s Kangaroo Point, Christopher was appointed Director of Music at Christ Church St Lucia in 2013.
A regular recitalist at major venues throughout Australia, he has also appeared as concerto soloist with the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, The Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata of St John’s the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra. Nineteen international tours include Austria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, England, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Norway and Sweden. His SACD (Melba) of Bach’s Organ Sonatas received rave reviews from around the globe.
