Neither a classical concert or a club gig, Dots+Loops explores the spaces in between. Centred around two nights this September, our inaugural Companions festival features cutting-edge international talent meeting with Australia’s new generation of local stars, as well as a bunch of Australian premieres, and two brand new works written just for the festival!

Day 1: Friday 8th September

  • Ashley Bathgate presents Bach Unwound: A riveting post-genre reinterpretation of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites, by the Sleeping Giant composer collective and Bang on a Can cellist Ashley Bathgate.
  • Airport* (DJ set)

Day 2: Saturday 9th September

  • Big Dead
  • Kupka's Piano, performing "Hout" by Louis Andriessen
  • Rosa Guitar Trio, premiering two brand new works by Chris Perren and Brechtje

About Dots+Loops

Who We Are

Dots+Loops is a Brisbane-based post-genre concert series and artist collective, exploring the space in between a traditional classical concert and an underground club gig. We take exciting, adventurous and thought-provoking music of all kinds, and present it in relaxed, accessible urban spaces. We're passionate about social community, equality, and adventurous art across all mediums, and combine this with a focus on concise, cohesive programming and quality over quantity. The result is a completely unique concert experience, which has been consistently applauded by critics, audiences and performers alike.

Our History

Since forming in early 2014, we've put on seven critically acclaimed concert experiences. These past shows have featured Australian and world premieres of music by the likes of Nico Muhly, Caroline Shaw, Bryce Dessner, Missy Mazzoli and Chris Perren, and collaborations with nationally and internationally recognised musicians from The Australian National Academy of Music, London's Royal Academy of Music, The Sydney Symphony and more.

Our Team

Dots+Loops is a highly collaborative and inclusive series; every performer, composer, audience attendee and support staff member is a part of the Dots+Loops team. The series was founded and is run by Kieran Welch, with significant assistance provided by Chris Perren and Flora Wong.
