The UQ School of Music presents its string students performing movements of unaccompanied Bach.

Isabel Young (violin) has been playing the violin for 13 years, and in that time has cultivated a love for orchestral and chamber music performance. Currently in second year studying at The University of Queensland under the tutelage of Associate Professor Adam Chalabi, Isabel has participated in UQ’s Richard Pollett Prize, Bach Prize, and Sleath String Performance Prize, as well as The University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra. She has been a long-standing member of Queensland Youth Orchestra, taking part in inter-state tours, and later this year will be participating in the Queensland Youth Symphony international tour to China and Germany.

Eleanor Hill (violin) is a third year Bachelor of Music (Honours) student at The University of Queensland, studying performance under Associate Professor Adam Chalabi. Although Eleanor is only 20, she has been fortunate to travel extensively as a violinist. Notable experiences include being invited to partake in the New York University Winter Music Program and performing with the Australian Youth Orchestra in China, Germany and The Netherlands. She has recently returned from China, performing with the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra.

Eleanor has been Concertmaster of The University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Concertmaster of Pulse Chamber Orchestra, Principal 2nd Violin of the Queensland Youth Symphony, Associate Concertmaster of the Australian Institute Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra. In her first year of study, Eleanor won both string prizes at The University of Queensland and was a finalist in the 4MBS Sid Page Musica Viva Chamber Music Prize. This year she was invited to perform as a soloist at the Lucas Parklands Classical Music Festival.  Eleanor is currently undertaking a six month internship with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Claire Weatherhead (violin) is in her third year of study at The University of Queensland with Associate Professor Adam Chalabi. Recent years have seen her develop as both soloist and orchestral musician, performing across Australia and overseas. Claire is currently a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, Queensland Youth Symphony and The University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, she is a member of the Meraki Quartet and is enjoying working with the Southern Cross Soloists this year as a Next Gen Artist. Having recently returned from Melbourne where she performed under the baton of the esteemed Nigel Westlake, Claire is looking forward to touring Asia and Europe with Queensland Youth Symphony later this year.

Simon Svoboda (‘cello) strives to become the most versatile musician he can be. He is currently studying his fourth year of ‘cello performance under the guidance of Patrick Murphy, and aims to deliver passionate performances wherever the opportunity may arise. Simon has performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Pulse Chamber Orchestra, Queensland Pops Orchestra, The University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and was Principal Cellist of the Smalley Chamber Orchestra at the 2016 National Music Camp. Simon's real passion, however, lies in solo playing and chamber music.
