About the performers

Pulse Chamber Orchestra

Following the success of the UQ chamber voice student tour of North Queensland in October 2016, Pulse Chamber Orchestra is preparing to tour North Queensland later this year to showcase the calibre of the School of Music’s chamber strings students.

Directed by Cello Performance Fellow Patrick Murphy and founded in 2012, Pulse Chamber Orchestra brings together dynamic Bachelor of Music (Honours) strings players. Pulse has an eclectic repertoire that ranges from baroque to contemporary classical music.

Talia Garrett-Benson

Talia Garrett-Benson is a second year BMus(Hons)/BSc student (majoring in voice) at UQ studying under the tutelage of Shaun Brown. At UQ, she has been a soloist in Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Handel’s Messiah. She is also a member of UQ Chamber Singers, recently performing in Bach’s B Minor Mass with QSO. Outside of UQ, she is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, proficient in piano, organ and violin. Talia is the organ scholar at Christchurch St Lucia studying with Christopher Wrench. Her solo repertoire also includes the ‘Habanera’ from Bizet’s Carmen, and ‘Erbarme Dich’ from Bach’s St Matthew Passion.

Simon Svoboda

Simon Svoboda is currently studying his fourth year Bachelor of Music (honours) with the guidance of cello legend Patrick Murphy. Simon is striving to become the most versatile musician he can be, playing in orchestral, solo, chamber and alternative music settings. In 2016 Simon performed in China, Germany, the Netherlands and regularly in Melbourne. Simon promises to deliver passionate performances whenever the opportunity arises.

About Twilight in the Red Box 2017

Join us for a series of intimate twilight concerts featuring music from renowned Australian and international composers in an eclectic program that touches on reflections on the past, present and future through topical issues including domestic violence, migration and Indigenous voices.

QMF will present this special series of instrumental and vocal performances curated by Patrick Murphy and performed by students of The University of Queensland School of Music.

Settle back as the sun sets over the Brisbane River and drink in an evening of stunning music performed by our nation’s rising stars.
