Dr Jessica O’Bryan (BMus, MMus, Grad Dip Ed, PhD) lectures and tutors in music, education and research studies across universities in South East Queensland. A professional opera singer, Jessica performed in opera companies, jazz and dance bands throughout her performance career across multiple genres and musical styles. Jessica also worked for 15 years as a music educator in schools and taught singing for 30 years in her private practice before moving to higher education, where, in addition to her teaching profile, she is a researcher in music and higher education. A published author in singing pedagogy and music assessment, she is the co-editor of Teaching Singing in the 21st Century (2014, Springer Publications), and is co-authoring a book on Musical Theatre education and training. Her areas of research include the master/apprentice model of music learning and teaching, musical theatre education and training, audience and engagement studies and Australian education policy frameworks.
