Researcher biography

Kate Travers is from Hobart, and graduated from the Tasmanian Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music Performance. She then moved to Sydney to study, freelance and take up a position with the ABC Sinfonia in 1986.

In the same year she was a semi -finalist in the ABC Young Performers Competition and soon accepted the position of Second and Bass clarinet with the QPO.

She has been a member of the QSO and QPO since 1987. She has appeared as guest artist with SSO, TSO and The Australian Ensemble and has been active teaching, mentoring and performing chamber music in QLD, Tasmania and Sydney throughout her career.

Career highlights include the many orchestral tours both regional and international, initiatives and performances as a member of the Cabaret group X-Collective, solo opportunities with QPO and in 2011 as the recipient of the Ann Hoban Fellowship extensive study and travel overseas.

She is married to fellow musician and trumpeter, Richard Madden.
