About the Scholarship

Florence Davey (1900-1992) taught music at Moreton Bay Girls' High School from 1917 to 1932, then taught privately. Florence was the first woman to graduate with a Diploma of Industrial Chemistry from the Technical College in 1937.

Following her retirement, Florence provided a gift of $50,000 to The University of Queensland in 1981 to establish the Florence Davey Pianoforte Scholarship, which was awarded for the first time in 1983 and most recently in 2008.
