UQ Concerto Competition

The winner of the UQ Concerto Competition is offered an opportunity to perform with The University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra (UQSO). In 2026, the winner will perform with UQSO under the leadership of Paul Dean on 31st May. The top 5 placing applicants will also be featuring in Concerto Movements concert later in the year.

Terms and Conditions
- Applicants must be enrolled for Semester 1 2026 in one of the following:
- MUSC1250 (Practical Studies 1)
- MUSC2250 Practical Studies 3)
- MUSC3255 (Practical Studies 5)
- MUSC4610 (Music Honours Project) in the Recital and Exegesis project format
- MUSC6012 (Music Honours Project) in the Recital and Exegesis project format
- MUSC7250 (Practical Studies 9)
- a Master of Philosophy performance project in the alternative thesis format.
- Applications must be submitted using the online application form by midday on Friday 30 January 2026, and include an application video of you performing 7-10 minutes of the chosen Concerto. The video must be unedited and recorded in a single take. Your recording will be considered purely on the basis of your performance skills and musicianship. The quality of the recording is not taken into consideration. Phone, tablet and other audio-visual devices are all acceptable.
Video Upload Guide Applications will be shortlisted and ranked by a selection panel, taking into account
- the information provided in your application
- your track record in School of Music auditions and recital assessments
- the artistic and/or educational value for other students in the UQSO of your proposed repertoire
- any other matters considered relevant by the selection panel.
