Small vocal ensemble Fractio Modi explores polyphonic music from England, spanning a time period of roughly three hundred years. We begin in the middle of the fourteenth century with a group of anonymous Mass settings, accompanied by a few motets from notable fifteenth century composers such as John Dunstable and Leonel Power. The second half of the program features a stunning set of penitential psalms by Thomas Tomkins, appropriate for the current Lenten season. Come hear how vocal music developed in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in the British Isles.
