Lockers and Practice Rooms

Booking Rooms

Students enrolled in some Music courses can book School rooms for instrumental practice, group work, and rehearsals. There are eight student practice rooms (430 to 433 and 452 to 455) and two teaching rooms (413 and 460) you can book using UQ Book It. Practical Studies percussion students may also book the percussion rooms (458 and 459) and Practical Studies piano students may also book the piano studio (423). Music technology students enrolled in MUSC3010 and MUSC3020 may also book the Nickson Room recording studio (511).

The Nickson Room (434) is not available for student bookings: all bookings for the Nickson Room must be made by staff.

When booking rooms with UQ Book It, click on

Students can make room bookings for Semester 1 from 1 February and for Semester 2 from 1 July. Staff may cancel bookings if a room is required for a teaching activity: if you are asked to leave a room by a staff member, please do so.

If someone else has booked a room but has not arrived at 10 minutes past the start of the booking, you may use the room until they arrive. This does not apply to the Nickson Room, which can only be used if you have an approved booking.

Instrument Lockers

The School provides lockers for students who are studying an orchestral instrument so that they can safely secure their instrument while on campus.

Lockers are allocated on request to Bachelor of Music and Master of Music students for the duration of their Practical Studies courses at the School. Please contact us at music@uq.edu.au to confirm there is an available locker of a suitable size. If there is, you will be allocated a locker for your instrument.

From 1 April each year, any lockers not already allocated to Bachelor of Music and Master of Music students are available to other students enrolled in Music courses or performing in a school ensemble for the rest of that year.

All items stored in the lockers are done so at your own risk and are not covered under UQ’s property insurance. It is recommended that students have their valuable equipment such as cameras and laptop computers insured under their personal home contents insurance policy. Please visit the Insurance for UQ Students page for more details on the student insurance policy.

Please do not to store food in the lockers as it attracts pests, including rats.

When you interrupt or finish your Practical Studies courses, please empty your locker and leave it clean and unlocked. You can use the vacuum cleaner in the locker room cupboard to clean your locker.
