Flora Wong (黃芷蕾) is a musician, educator, producer and researcher who is drawn to contemporary, exploratory and multi-disciplinary arts. She is a member of Meanjin/Brisbane-based ensembles Nonsemble, Voltfruit, Tango Enigmático and Matt Hsu's Obscure Orchestra, and Co-Director of Dots+Loops.
As a violinist, she is equally at home performing contemporary classical repertoire, producing ambient music for violin and electronics, and recording for pop, jazz, folk and electronic artists in the studio. She has given the Australian premiere performances of works by Kate Moore, Missy Mazzoli and Pamela Z,and her interest in diverse styles of music has led her to perform with a wide range of artists including Tenzin Choegyal, Timothy Munro, Jaguar Jonze, and Boy & Bear. She has extensive recording experience across many genres, with artists such as The Kite String Tangle, Sophie Min, Luke Cuerel and Ed Kuepper.
Her debut EP Geburtstag was released through Corella Recordings in 2022 and features works by Connor D’Netto, MJ O’Neill, Chris Perren and Kezia Yap that she commissioned. Her recording of Chris Perren’s Escapement with Jodie Rottle was featured in Limelight’s Australian Art Music Playlist, Viking’s Choice with NPR’s Lars Gotrich, and The Strad.

As an educator, she is an Adjunct Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Music, and the coordinator and lead mentor of Dots+Loops’ Performance Fellowship program. She has experience as an instrumental music teacher in primary and secondary schools, a lecturer in contemporary violin at JMC Academy, and as a workshop presenter for Musica Viva Australia and the Queensland Academies Creative Industries (QACI).
Flora has also worked as the Queensland State Coordinator and Producer for Musica Viva Australia, a Lead Producer of Brisbane City Council’s BrisAsia Festival, and serves on the board of Digi Youth Arts.
She is currently a PhD candidate at Griffith University’s Creative Arts Research Institute as part of the Creative Change Project, which examines the role of community music in addressing social inequities in so-called Australia.
In addition to her debut EP, her 2022 releases have included the track 洗米 (Washing Rice) as part of Age of Leisure's compilation Textures, a remix for Mindy Meng Wang and Tim Shiel, and Tango Enigmatico’s debut EP Nuevo y Vivo, with Nonsemble's third album Archaeopteryx to come in October.
