Lou Stanley is the Music Technical Officer in the School of Music.

After Lou decided that life was a great adventure, she set out on her path of discovery. However, she soon encountered a slight flaw in her plan—qualifications. Lou made the decision to drop out during her third year of a BA in Professional Writing and instead pursued acting at Youth theatres. Needing to earn money, she took up jobs as a truck and cab driver.

Lou's journey then led her to the UK, where she found work backstage in the West End and also took on cleaning duties in an old people's home. Returning to Australia, she found herself operating lights for a production at The Performance Space in Redfern. It was during this time that her lighting desk developed a fault, which sparked her interest in electronics.

Recognizing the limitations of a life without qualifications, Lou decided to pursue an Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineering. This led her to secure a position at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Seeking further advancement, she went on to complete a Grad Cert in Project Management at the University of Sydney. During her time at ABC, she designed multiple facilities at the ABC Ultimo complex. However, after many years there, Lou yearned for new adventures and consequently spent a couple of years at both the Federal Police and SBS TV.

The next chapter of her life involved a move to Brisbane, which represented yet another step into the unknown. She spent seven years working for the Queensland Police service before transitioning to ABC radio Brisbane. Eventually, Lou made the decision to take early retirement due to family reasons but continued working part-time in Outside Broadcasting, covering various sporting events.

Finally, Lou found a lovely place to work at UQ School of Music, where she could utilize her technical skills to assist both staff and students.
