Kate Travers is a clarinettist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
She started her playing career as a member of the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987 and then took up a position with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra after the merger of the two orchestras in 2001.
She graduated from the Tasmanian Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in 1985 and shortly after moved to Sydney to study, freelance and take up a position with the ABC Sinfonia in 1986 before securing a fulltime position in the QPO the following year.
She has enjoyed a rich and varied musical life and has appeared as guest artist with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and The Australian Ensemble. She has appeared as soloist with the Queensland Philharmonic and has been active teaching, mentoring and performing chamber music in Brisbane and Queensland throughout her career. In recent years her passion for teaching has taken priority and she has been heavily involved with teaching activities at the University of Queensland, throughout Queensland as part of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s education programme and also at her home studio.
