The Viney-Grinberg Piano Duo

Yale University’s Chair of Composition, Professor Martin Bresnick, has been collaborating with UQ ensemble-in-residence, the Viney-Grinberg Piano Duo.

The Duo will give a preview performance of Bresnick’s ‘Handwork’, a brand new composition for two pianos, ahead of their tour to the United States in September.

Dr Liam Viney of the Viney-Grinberg Piano Duo said it was a privilege to work with Martin Bresnick.

“Working with Martin from the early conceptual phase right through to workshopping and premiering the new piece is a rare opportunity. Two-piano activity is collaborative by nature for performers, but working with a composer extends our research into a different order of collaborative music creation,” Dr Viney said.

The Duo will tour Handwork, along with new Australian works receiving their U.S. premieres, to Los Angeles, Houston, Austin and New Haven.

Martin Bresnick’s music has won numerous international awards, been released on several record labels, and been used in feature films. The New York Times said “Mr. Bresnick is a major voice” - Anthony Tommasini (New York Times, 2006)

UQ Ensemble in Residence, The Viney Grinberg Duo, are UQ Piano Performance Fellows Dr Liam Viney, and Dr Anna Grinberg. Active performers in festivals, major series, live radio broadcasts, and orchestras, the Duo specialise in collaborations with composers, artists, dancers, choreographers and other established performing ensembles. Liam is a regular contributor to The Conversation online journal.

‘Handwork’ was commissioned by the UQ School of Music’s Creative Collaboratorium.

A preview performance of Handwork will take place at the UQ School of Music on 13 August 2015..
