Experience an intimate afternoon of music exploring the rich and enduring relationship between the human voice and the plucked strings of the guitar. The programme travels from the elegant poetry of John Dowland, with songs for voice and lute alongside works for lute and SATB ensemble, to the vibrant colours of Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No 5. The concert also features the exquisite duet “Pur ti miro” from Claudio Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, bringing two voices together in one of opera’s most beautiful expressions of love and made more poignant by the accompaniment of single guitar and cello. Alongside the vocal repertoire, Zac Hubbard will showcase the versatility of the guitar in a selection of solo works, creating a programme that moves effortlessly between Renaissance intimacy, Baroque drama, Brazilian warmth and contemporary instrumental expression.
