The Bachelor of Music Excellence Entry Pathway is available to domestic applicants who
- demonstrate exceptional music talent and high scholarly capability.
- do not have and are not eligible for an ATAR.
- apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) for a place in the Bachelor of Music program (QTAC Code 723002).
- complete Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C) or complete an English language proficiency test and score approved for UQ admission.
The Pathway is not available for applicants who have an ATAR or who wish to enrol in a dual degree with the Bachelor of Music. Applicants for any dual degree must meet the prerequisites and ATAR entry score thresholds for both programs.
Students admitted via the pathway receive a dedicated academic staff member as mentor for their first year, access to academic literacy workshops, and monthly progress monitoring by the Bachelor of Music convenor during semester to enable early intervention if needed. Students who are under 18 at the time of enrolment are subject to additional duty of care arrangements, including parental or guardian involvement in induction and welfare monitoring.
Application to Audition
Applications to audition open on Wednesday 21 October 2026. The due date is 4pm on Friday 30 October 2026, and no late applications will be considered.
Application to Audition - Music Excellence Pathway
In the Application to Audition all applicants submit a link to an audio-visual recording of their 15-minute audition on YouTube.
The standard for your audition repertoire should be comparable to AMusA or LMusA from the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB).
For performers, your audition video must be unedited and recorded in a single take. Your recording will be considered purely on the basis of your performance skills and musicianship. The quality of the recording is not taken into consideration. Phone, tablet and other audio-visual devices are all acceptable. Accompaniment is not necessary, but you may use pre-recorded accompaniment if you wish. If you are unable to access an instrument to make a recording, please email music@uq.edu.au.
Recordings will be viewed by academic staff, and you will be notified by Tuesday 3 November 2026 if you have progressed to the second round of live auditions. Live auditions will take place at the School of Music from Wednesday 4 November to Friday 6 November 2026.
Following the live auditions, you will be notified by Tuesday 10 November if you have progressed to the third round of interviews. Applicants will be interviewed by a panel to assess academic readiness, writing ability, English language proficiency and scholarly aptitude. Interviews will take place at the School of Music from Wednesday 11 November to Friday 20 November 2026.
Following the interviews, you will be notified of the outcome of your application after the panel recommendations have been reviewed and approved by the Academic Registrar. You will not be informed of the outcome on the day of the interview.
