Led by the internationally renowned saxophonist Dr Emma Di Marco, the UQSE is an exciting ensemble featuring UQ students, School of Music students and talented local high school musicians. Known for their dynamic performances, the UQSE showcases an eclectic program ranging from classical transcriptions to newly commissioned Australian works and popular jazz pieces.
The evening’s program will feature works including Mussorgsky’s Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition, Piazzolla’s Libertango, and Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2. You will also hear captivating Australian compositions such as Andrew Ball’s Chimera and Jenni Watson’s 7 Day Total and Process Habits. With exciting solos from Jonathan Sayer, Ethan Henke and Emma Di Marco, this concert promises to engage and inspire music lovers of all backgrounds.

About Dr Emma Di Marco
A Churchill Fellowship recipient & Australian D’Addario Woodwinds Artist, Dr Emma Di Marco is a contemporary saxophonist and music educator. She maintains a portfolio career as a performer, chamber musician, educator, artistic director, business owner, and researcher. Emma has performed in over ten countries and has featured in a diverse array of performances over the last fifteen years from orchestral repertoire with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra to opera at the Tongyong International Music Festival in South Korea and even locally with the community favourite, Pub Choir. As a champion of Australian art music, Emma has toured Australia twice with programs of specially commissioned Australian saxophone works. These pieces will form the basis of her upcoming album, Shimmer, set to be released with Corella recordings in 2025. Emma is a Casual Academic in Saxophone at the University of Queensland; founder of sheet music publisher, Di Marco Music; and is also Head of Woodwind at a prestigious Brisbane school. Emma is a founding member of the Barega Saxophone Quartet and has performed internationally with the group as well as releasing two albums of commissioned Australian repertoire. She holds a PhD in musicology and is regularly featured in industry events and festivals including four World Saxophone Congresses. She can be heard on her ep, Charisma, her two albums with Barega Sax, or one of her many popular social media channels or two podcasts: Sax Bites and UNMUSICAL.
