Join us in the GHD Auditorium for another vibrant showcase of saxophone artistry as the UQ Saxophone Ensemble (UQSE) presents their latest program, Onyx. Under the direction of acclaimed saxophonist Dr Emma Di Marco, the UQSE brings together University of Queensland students, School of Music students, and talented young performers from the wider community in a dynamic celebration of saxophone excellence.
This concert features an exhilarating blend of repertoire that highlights the versatility and colour of the saxophone ensemble. Audiences will enjoy Onyx by Australian composer Keyna Wilkins and Pastiche for Saxophone Ensemble by beloved Australian composer Mark Walton, a playful and energetic work full of stylistic flair. Also on the program is Fanfare Liberté by Jenni Watson, a bold and spirited piece that showcases rhythmic drive and rich harmonic textures. Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, a saxophone-only arrangement of the popular Concert Band work. Mojito by British saxophonist, Rob Buckland and Underground by local Brisbane composer Andrew Ball. Rounding out the evening is the thrilling Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich — a jubilant and fast-paced work that promises to close the concert on a high note.
