The UQ School of Music proudly presents an afternoon of chamber music performed by outstanding emerging artists from the Bachelor of Music cohort, in a celebration of artistry, collaboration, and Classical brilliance. This program is devoted to the luminous chamber works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose writing for winds and strings remains among the most refined and expressive in the repertoire. The concert opens with the Oboe Quartet in F major, K. 370, a work of elegance and buoyancy. Mozart places the oboe in sparkling dialogue with string trio, creating music of operatic lyricism and shimmering interplay. The outer movements charm with vitality, while the central Adagio reveals a vocal, almost aria-like intimacy. At the heart of the program is the beloved Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581. Written for his friend Anton Stadler, this masterpiece is a study in warmth and transparency. The clarinet weaves seamlessly through the string quartet texture, at times blending, at times soaring above, in music of profound serenity and grace. Its sublime Larghetto stands as one of Mozart’s most tender inspirations. Completing the evening is the enchanting “Kegelstatt” Trio in E-flat major, K. 498, scored for clarinet, viola, and piano. Intimate and conversational, this trio delights in subtle wit and gentle lyricism. Mozart’s inventive scoring allows each instrument to shine while maintaining an exquisite balance of colour and texture. Together, these three chamber works showcase not only Mozart’s genius but also the collaborative artistry of UQ’s emerging instrumentalists. These musicians are poised at the beginning of their professional journeys, bringing freshness, vitality, and thoughtful musicianship to some of the most treasured works in the chamber canon.
